Spawn protection, regions and combat

The protected spawn, regions with flags, combat tags, new player protection and alerts for staff.

These rules slow things down or tell your staff. They never ban anyone.

The protected spawn

A 150 by 150 block square around the world spawn where only owners and staff build, players and monsters cannot hurt players, explosions break nothing, and pistons and liquids cannot cross the edge. Each part is a setting. /setspawn moves it.

Combat tag

A hit between two players tags both for 30 seconds. While tagged:

  • /spawn, /warp, /rtp, /home and their other names do not work,
  • elytra gliding is blocked (ender pearls can be too),
  • leaving the game counts as dying.

New player protection

Other players cannot hurt a new player for their first 60 minutes of playtime. It ends if they attack, or with /protection off. /protection shows the time left.

Alerts for staff

  • More than 15 commands in 10 seconds: the player is asked to slow down.
  • More than 3 accounts from one internet address in a day: staff are told. We keep only a scrambled code, never the address.
  • The same two players killing each other more than 3 times in an hour: staff are told.

Alerts show to staff with sh.guard.alerts and are saved in plugins/sh-guard/flags/. Staff commands: /guard flags, /guard status <player>, /guard untag <player>, /guard unprotect <player>.

Regions

A region is a named box with rules (flags), for example a town with no fighting.

  1. /zone wand, then left click one corner and right click the other.
  2. /zone create <name> [priority], for example /zone create arena 20.
  3. /zone flag <name> <flag> allow|deny, for example /zone flag town pvp deny. none removes a flag.

Flags: pvp, build, break, interact, mob-spawn, mob-damage, item-drop, enderpearl, fly, explosions, fire-spread, and enter-message and leave-message (text). /zone flags lists them.

  • Where regions overlap, the highest priority that sets a flag decides. /zone parent arena town makes the arena inherit unset flags.
  • Outside regions, the world default applies (/zone worldflag world pvp allow).
  • Staff with sh.zones.bypass can still build.
  • More: /zone list, info, priority, redefine, delete.

Regions are saved in plugins/sh-zones/zones.yml, so your AI can make them too. Setups that include WorldGuard (Economy SMP, Lifesteal) can use its /rg regions as well.
