Versions and software

Switch Minecraft version or server software safely, and let older players join.

New servers run Paper on the current Minecraft version (26.2 in these docs). Switch in Settings, under Version and software.

Software you can pick

  • Paper: the default.
  • Purpur: Paper with extra options.
  • Vanilla: the plain game, no plugins.

Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and modpacks are not offered.

Switch safely

  1. Pick the software and version. The newest is marked latest.
  2. Press Check what would break. It lists plugins that may not work after the switch. Nothing has changed yet.
  3. If something would break, tick Switch anyway; I can roll back from the snapshot.
  4. Press Switch to. We take a snapshot, then switch.

If it goes badly, roll back from Backups.

Bug-fix builds of the same version are applied for you at the next wake, after a snapshot. A new Minecraft version is always your choice.

Older players

Turn on Let older Java versions join in Settings to let players down to 1.8 join. Our proxy translates for them, so you install nothing. They see chest menus, and very old versions get fewer features.

With it off, a player on an older version reads a plain line such as "This server needs 26.2 or newer" instead of an error.

PvP setups can switch on 1.8-style combat. See Box PvP.

Bedrock

Bedrock players (phones, consoles, Windows) can join too. See Bedrock crossplay.
