Troubleshooting

Fix common problems: the server will not start or wake, players cannot join, lag, crashes, and getting a diagnosis.

Run a diagnosis first

A diagnosis reads your server's status, recent logs and these docs, then explains what is wrong and what to try. It changes nothing.

  • The help bot on this site, when you are signed in. See The help bot.
  • Your own AI, if connected. It can then make the fix, under your settings.
  • Explain buttons on console errors, log files and crashes.

The server will not start

  1. Read the last console lines before it stopped.
  2. Usual causes: a broken config after an edit, a plugin for another Minecraft version, or a damaged world.
  3. Restore a recent backup, or remove the newest plugin.

Crashes

A crashed server restarts at once. The crash report, if Minecraft wrote one, is on Logs. After 3 crashes in 10 minutes it stops and you get an alert. It stays stopped until you start it, and the count starts over.

Running out of memory counts as a crash. Remove plugins you do not need, lower the view distance, or move to more memory.

Players cannot join

  • Check the address: name.quarrymc.net, with no port.
  • A sleeping server takes about 20 seconds to wake.
  • Older Minecraft versions need Let older Java versions join in Settings.
  • Bedrock players need crossplay.
  • Check the whitelist on Players.
  • A custom domain needs its DNS records. See Addresses and custom domains.

The server does not wake

  • A failed wake sends you an alert and shows in Activity.
  • When a region is full, servers wait in line, paid ones first. See Sleeping and waking.
  • A crash on start shows in the console and the diagnosis.

Lag

  • Check TPS and memory on the Overview.
  • New servers use a view and simulation distance of 6. Raising them loads far more of the world.
  • Many plugins, mobs, farms or loaded chunks cause lag.
  • Paid plans can pre-generate the world. See Worlds.
  • See Common errors in the console.

A plugin does not work

Check it is made for your Minecraft version and for Paper, and that its dependencies are installed. See Plugins.

Your AI cannot do something

  • On the server's AI page, the action may be on Block, or on Ask and waiting.
  • Your AI cannot approve its own requests.
  • Check it is still listed in Account, Connected AIs.

I changed something and want it back

If your AI did it, press Undo on the AI page. Otherwise, restore a backup.

Still stuck

Check the status page. We will add a link to our community Discord here before the beta. We do not promise a reply time. To report a bug or ask a person, use Bugs and ideas in the panel (Help from our staff).

Quarry Hosting is in beta. If our machine fails, we bring servers back from the latest backup, and anything after it can be lost. Keep your own copy of anything precious.
