Backups and restores
When backups are made, how many you keep, the pinned known-good copy, and how to download, roll back or restore.
When we back up
- Once a day on days the server was played, and each time your server goes to sleep.
- Before every change your AI makes, and before a version switch, world reset, world upload or rollback. These are called snapshots.
- When you press Back up now.
A backup covers everything, only the worlds, or only configs and plugins. While the server runs, it pauses world saving during the copy, so no file is caught half written. Players keep playing.
Backups are encrypted and stored away from your server. The machines that run servers can add backups but never delete them.
How many you keep
- Free: the last 3 backups, the last 3 snapshots, and one pinned known-good copy. Backups made by your AI or a schedule are counted on their own, so they never push out the others.
- Paid: everything from the last 14 days (Stone, 3 GB), 30 days (Iron, 4 to 7 GB) or 60 days (Gold, 8 to 12 GB), plus pinned copies.
The known-good copy
Each clean sleep with no crash in the last hour becomes the pinned known-good copy. Nothing pushes it out, so you can always go back to a copy that worked.
Pin keeps any backup. Free plans have one pin: pinning your own replaces the known-good copy. Paid plans can pin 5, plus the known-good copy. Your AI cannot pin or unpin.
Restore
Open a backup's more button.
- Roll back: the live server goes back to that backup: everything, only the worlds, or only configs and plugins. A snapshot of now is taken first, so you can undo it.
- Restore some files: pick files or folders from the backup. They replace the current ones; everything else stays.
- Restore into a new copy: makes a new server from the backup with its own address. It uses a server slot and leaves your live server alone.
- Download as zip: the link works for an hour, only for you.
A restore unpacks to one side and checks the files before putting them in place. If one item cannot be put back, it is skipped and listed.
Undo an AI change
On the AI page, Undo next to a step puts back the snapshot taken just before it.
