Multiverse
Using the Multiverse plugin on your server next to the Worlds page: how to install it, what to use for which world, and what to watch.
Multiverse is a plugin that makes extra worlds and moves players between them with commands such as
/mv. You can use it on your server. Most owners do not need it: the Worlds
page already makes extra worlds, sets the main world and sets borders.
Install it
Open Plugins, then Find plugins, and search for "Multiverse-Core". It is installed and
checked like any other plugin. Your AI can do the same. Restart the server after installing.
Multiverse is a Paper plugin, so it is for Paper servers, not servers with mods. We installed
Multiverse-Core 5.8.1 on a Paper 26.2 server, made a world with /mv create, restarted, and the
world came back with the server running normally. We have not tested every version of it. If it
misbehaves, remove it and use the Worlds page.
Use one tool for each world
Multiverse keeps its own list of worlds. The Worlds page keeps another. Neither knows about the other, so pick one for each world:
- Made it on the Worlds page? Delete, reset, border and main world stay on the Worlds page.
- Made it with
/mv create? Manage it with/mv. Press Delete on the Worlds page only if you also mean to remove it from Multiverse. If you delete a world on the Worlds page and it is still in Multiverse's list, the server logs a "Failed to autoload world" error at each start and runs anyway. Run/mv remove <world>to clear it.
What to watch
- Main world. Set it in one place only. The Worlds page changes the main world at the next restart, and a different setting in Multiverse can pull players somewhere else.
- Take a snapshot first. The Worlds page takes one before a delete or a reset. Multiverse does not: make one in Backups before you delete or move worlds.
- Disk space. Every world adds to your disk. Free servers have 5 GB.
- After an update. If you change the Minecraft version, check the Multiverse page on Modrinth or Hangar says it works on that version. A plugin that is not made for your version shows Not made for this version on the Installed tab.
